SIGHT and SENSE
Sight can be explored scientifically, objectively, but sense is explored personally, subjectively. The visual language of art which combines the two, may help us better understand perception. Perspective, an extension of sight and its construction in art, takes different shapes in different cultures. Does the use of perspective in Western art reflect scientific truth? Does the lack of perspective in Islamic art reflect the absence of scientific truth? How did Arab optical science impact the Renaissance pictorial perspective? These and other questions will be explored comparatively, through examples of world art.
